MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS

Statement referred to in reply to Lok Sabha Starred Question Number 219 asked by Shri Sunil Dattatray Tatkare and Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma regarding web based app on crime for reply on 03.12.2019.

(a) to (e): ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India. The States are responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property of the citizens in their respective jurisdictions. Data on crime and criminals is maintained by respective States/Union Territories. Information on any web or mobile based application for collection of information related to crime and criminals by the States/UTs is not maintained centrally. In order to facilitate police in State/ Union Territories with a common platform for filing reports, collecting and sharing information on crimes and criminals at national level, the Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.
