GST on Ayurveda

Will the Minister of



FINANCE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government received any representation requesting to rectify the anomalies in Goods and Services Tax (GST) in fixing the tax slab for Ayurveda and if so, the reaction of Government thereon; and

(b) whether the Government proposes to re-examine the disputed slabs pertain to Ayurveda in GST regime?

(a): Representations have been received seeking reduction in the GST rates for ayurvedic medicines. Considering the same, the GST Council had recommended reduction in GST rates from 12% to 5% for Medicaments (Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathic or Bio-Chemic systems), manufactured exclusively in accordance with the formulas described in the authoritative books specified in the First Schedule to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (23 of 1940) or Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia or the German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia, as the case may be, and sold under the name as specified in such books or pharmacopoeia, which was notified vide notification No. 34/2017-Central Tax (Rate), dated 13th October, 2017.

(b): Does not arise in view of (a) above.
