Awareness about Cultural Heritage

CULTURE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government proposes to set up any centre in the country to spread awareness among people towards cultural heritage of India;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/ UT-wise and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to increase awareness among people regarding cultural heritage and values of India?

(a) & (b) To protect, preserve & promote various forms of art and to spread awareness among people towards cultural heritage of India, the Government of India has set up seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) with headquarters at Patiala, Nagpur, Udaipur, Allahabad, Kolkata, Dimapur and Thanjavur. These ZCCs organize various cultural activities and programmes on regular basis throughout the country. Annual grant-in-aid is provided to all these 7 ZCCs by Government of India for carrying out these activities and State/UT-wise funds are not provided. However, annual grant-in-aid is provided during the last three years to these ZCCs for this purpose with details as under:

(c) To showcase and increase awareness among people regarding cultural heritage and values of India, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India has organized four Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsavs (RSMs) viz. at New Delhi during November, 2015 and October, 2016, at Varanasi during December, 2016 and at Bengaluru in March, 2017.
