ANSWER

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(DR. MAHENDRA NATH PANDEY)
(a) : As on date, 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are functioning in the
country.
(b) to (e): IITs follow the reservation policy as laid down in the Department of
Personnel & Training (DOP&T)’s orders dated 23.06.1975, 13.05.1994 and Order
dated 09.06.2008 of this Ministry. These orders stipulate reservation in
recruitment to the posts of Assistant Professors only in Science and Technology
subjects. IITs make efforts to fill all the reserved posts by conducting special
recruitment drive through advertisement. However, due to non-availability of
suitable candidates from these categories, some posts remain vacant. As regards
non-faculty posts in IITs, details in respect of 17 IITs are annexed.
