HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:-




(a) whet`ner the Government has received representations on wide divergent rates of premat.ric scholarships paid by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Minority Affairs;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) trie rates of the scholarships of these two ministries in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar for 4th and 9th standard students belonging to SC/ST communities and minorities; (d,) the reasons and justification for lower rates of scholarships paid to poor Scheduled Caste`s (SCs)/Scheduled Tribes (STs) students as compared to better off minority students; and

(e) the action taken/being taken by the Government to provide uniform rates of scholarships to SCs/ STs, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists students?

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a) to (e): The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development is administering Centrally Sponsored `National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)`with the objective to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at class VIII and encourage them to continue their study at secondary stage. One lakh scholarships of Rs.6000/- per annum (Rs.500/- per month) per student are awarded to selected students of class IX every year and their continuation/renewal in classes X to XII for study in Government, Government-aided and Local body schools under the scheme. Scholarship rate is uniform® Rs. 500/- per month for all students of classes IX to XII of all States/UTs irrespective of community/caste as well as State/UT.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements three Scholarship schemes for the Education Empowerment of students belonging to minority communities. The schemes are Pre-matric Scholarship, Post-matric Scholar ship and Merit-cum-Means based scholarship S,cheme. The rates of the said Scholarship Schemes are annexed.
