Will the Minister of



HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-




(a) the number of Hindu/Sikh immigrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan living in various parts of the country, State/ UT-wise;

(b) the number of applications pending for grant of citizenship in the country, country-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to allow those immigrants who are staying in the country and yet to get Indian citizenship to work in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the measures taken for their rehabilitation in the country?


ANSWER


MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)

(a) The data pertaining to Pakistani and Afghani immigrants living in the country is not centrally maintained.

(b) As per data base, 1981 on-line applications are under process at various levels for grant of citizenship. The detail is given in Annexure.

(c)&(d) In terms of this Ministry’s letter No.28020/58/2014-F.III dated 15.12.2014, the State Governments/UT Administrations have been empowered to grant permission to Pakistani nationals staying on Long Term Visa under eligible categories to engage themselves in employment of purely private nature i.e. excluding Government/semi-Government, local bodies, co-operative jobs etc.
