Locust attacks in Rajasthan

AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government is aware about the locust swarms that have infested crops in various districts of Rajasthan;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the actions being taken by the Government to tackle the problem and ensure minimum loss of crop;

(d) whether the Government is planning to announce any scheme for compensating farmers who have lost their crop in the attack; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Desert Locust incursion occurred during 2019-20 in Rajasthan State. State Government of Rajasthan has reported that locust swarms infested the crops in Jalore, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Bikaner, Pali, Sirohi and Sri Ganganagar Districts of Rajasthan and a total of 1,79,584 hectare area was affected during 2019-20.

(c): Locust Warning Organization, Jodhpur and 8 Locust Circle Offices situated in Rajasthan are conducting awareness campaigns and training for State Agriculture & Revenue Department officials, farmers and Border Security Force personnel. Sufficient pesticides availability is being ensured and control capabilities are being enhanced.

(d) & (e): Crop losses are covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna. State Government of Rajasthan has reported that Mid-season adversity clause has been invoked in four districts - Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore and Jodhpur. State Government has released the State premium subsidy share to insurance companies on behalf of farmers as per provisions of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna. Furthermore, State Government of Rajasthan has reported that an amount of Rs.110 crores has been paid to 66,392 affected farmers as Agriculture input subsidy during 2019-20.
